Anti-Virus Updates
Essential Information
Security is a game of cat and mouse. Hackers continually
find new holes in software to attack you, whilst software
manufacturers create patches or updates to counteract them.
If you don’t keep up to date with these patches your computer
might as well be unprotected. One of the benefits of broadband
is that you can download patches quickly and easily.
You must download free virus updates to your computer,
either direct from your anti-virus software or from the
software manufacturer’s website. For example, in AVG
Anti-Virus you must periodically click the Check for
updates button to get the latest protection.
Action 1
In Windows Security Centre (see Section 5 of this chapter)
turn on Virus Protection. This automatically monitors
your anti-virus software and knows if the list of viruses
needs to be updated. If it does, a reminder message will pop
up next time you turn on your computer (Fig. 5).
