VPNs and the Central Office

by

VPNs are enabled internally by most carrier-grade edge routers and Ethernet switches today
and by many base station controller/routers offered by broadband wireless manufacturers.
Using such a centralized platform rather than component encryption devices makes for easier
administration, a smaller footprint in the central office, and generally lower equipment expenditure.
I strongly believe in MPLS- or Ethernet-enabled VPNs over older implementations
involving tunneling protocols and extraneous boxes.
