Speed of Deployment

by

Ease and speed of deployment, the next consideration facing the prospective network operator,
would appear to favor a wireless solution. But this is assuming that negotiations with site
owners proceed smoothly. If they do not, the deployment process may become interminable.
Securing backhaul may also be a problem, particularly if high-speed wireline links are not in
place where they are needed or are priced out of reach. In general, I favor wireless backhaul
(transmitting voice and data traffic from a cell to a switch) wherever it is feasible because otherwise
the network operator ends up competing with the incumbents on their own turf and,
worse, depending on them for facilities.
