Infrastructure for a Purpose

by

If one had to formulate a single rule for the deployment of physical infrastructure in a wireless
broadband network, or any other type of broadband network for that matter, it would be the
following: Every aspect of the deployment must harmonize with an explicit service model.
Cell location and dimensions, frequency reuse patterns, and modulation techniques must all support subscriber demographics and the various service offerings at predicted usage levels.
Constructing a network is as much an exercise in market projection as it is a technical undertaking.
When that is understood by the operator, the considerable risks associated with any
broadband access business are significantly reduced.
