Implementing ISM Bands
All commercial companies can deploy wireless networks that operate within the ISM
bands; however, be sure to coordinate the use of ISM frequencies with the company’s
frequency manager if one exists. This is especially important with hospitals, where
medical instruments may be using ISM frequencies as well. This coordination will significantly
reduce the possibility of interference.
Also be aware that the U.S. military manages frequencies by special non-FCC organizations.
If you plan to operate a wireless network on a military base, you must first
contact the base frequency manager and obtain a special operating license. If the
radio LAN frequencies might interfere with radio equipment used on base, you probably
will not be granted a license.
