Switched VPNs

The second type of VPN, that defined by layer 2 switching, takes a number of forms based on
both the protocols utilized and the setup methodology.
Such layer 2 VPNs can be established over pure circuit networks or over packet networks
that employ switches rather than routers. Both approaches have their respective advantages
and disadvantages.
