Publishing to the WAP Server
WAP documents and applications should be thoroughly tested
before they are published to the world. Testing is best done with an emulator,
such as the Nokia WAP Toolkit. Testing should also be done, if possible, using
several different WAP devices and browsers, to make sure the documents look
acceptable, at least on the most commonly used browsers.
Once document functionality has been thoroughly tested on
one’s own computer, the documents can be transferred to an origin WAP server for
the world to view. This transfer is done using either a character-based or a
graphical FTP program. One of the most popular and easy to use graphical FTP
programs is WS_FTP . This program allows you to send your files up to the WAP
server, via the FTP protocol. You must send all code files – WML and WMLScript,
as well as any image files that your documents reference. Currently all WAP
browsers recognize WBMP format for images since this is part of the WAP
standard. Some WAP browsers also recognize GIF and JPG formats, but usually
mobile phones only accept WBMP format images.
