Updating Your Drivers

If your network adapter isn't working after installing your driver, you might want to look at installing updated drivers from the manufacturer's web site. Open your Web browser and head to the vendor's site, where you should be able to download an updated driver.

Below are some vendors of wireless networking equipment and their support sites, where you should be able to find the latest drivers.

3Com (support.3com.com)

Compaq (www.compaq.com/support/files/networking/)

D-Link (www.dlink.com/tech/)

Linksys (www.linksys.com/download/)

Proxim (www.proxim.com/support/software/)

Netgear (Figure 8.4) (support1.netgear.com/netgear1/)

SMC (www.smc.com)

Intel (support.intel.com)

Using an updated driver can get a network adapter up and running when you can't seem to get your computers communicating. Using the correct driver can also increase the throughput speed on your network.
