HomeRF
The mission of the HomeRF Working Group (HRFWG), formed in 1998, was to provide
the foundation for a broad range of interoperable consumer devices by establishing
an open industry specification for wireless digital communication between PCs and
consumer electronic devices anywhere in and around the home [Hom00]. The working
group eventually drafted a HomeRF specification, but industry support for the initiative
declined as the popularity of the IEEE 802.11b specification grew. The rapid growth
in adoption of 802.11-based products served to lower price points dramatically, and
in addition, 802.11 products offered better performance than HomeRF. The HomeRF
Working Group disbanded in January 2003. For a good summary of the objectives and
activities of the HomeRF group, see [Pah02a].
